Balloon Badminton

We spent the day working up a sweat while playing Balloon Badminton. We started off with a pretty small and lifeless balloon (not nearly enough air in it to keep it floating for long). It was a good challenge, but we decided to transition to a bigger balloon so we could catch a break while it floated in the air.

Rather than playing like actual badminton, we decided to make it more of a combined effort to not let the balloon touch the ground. Once we got the hang of it, we were able to go a good amount of time with it up in the air. Many people had awesome hits and great saves to keep the game going.

Since we were moving around so much it was hard to get a good picture of us in action, but we've included some alternative ways for you to play balloon badminton with your friends and family. We used a typical balloon and actual badminton rackets but here are some additional ideas. Enjoy!

- Make your own "rackets" with paper/plastic plates and a popsicle stick and decorate them
- Use fly swatters as rackets
- Use feet instead of rackets
- Include defenders that use butterfly nets to snag the balloon from the other team
- Put glow necklaces on rackets for glow in the dark balloon badminton
- Water Balloon Badminton for the brave of heart and for the hot summer days
